Jessica's First Public Appearance

Jessica Simpson was born in Abilene, Texas and raised in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas. Her father, Joe Simpson, was a former Baptist youth minister and her mother, Tina Ann Drew a former sunday school teacher. Her only sibling is her younger sister Ashlee, who also launched her music career in 2004. Jessica displayed her musical talent at an early age. As a young girl, at the age of 12, she started singing in her Baptist church choir. At the very same age she filled an application for auditions at The New Mickey Mouse Club, but unfortunately it got rejected. The club starred fellow pop singer, the future stars of musical world, such as Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears and the cute sensational male singer, Justin Timberlake.

School Days

Simpson attended J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, Texas. It was her Baptist church camp which proved to be the launch pad of her musical career because it was there that she was discovered singing, by a head of a small contemporary Christian record label. This record company recorded an album over the next three years, however the label wrapped up its studio, even before the record could be released.

While she was pursuing her higher education, she decided to drop out in her senior year, for the promotion of her demo album, which was funded by her grandmother, Joyce. She latter earned her GED. By this time she was traveling with the Christian Youth Conference circuit, performing with Kirk Franklin, God's Property and CeCe Winans. Jessica along with her father, sold copies of the album after her performances. Tommy Mottola of Columbia Records was among those who received a copy of the album and was able to judge her singing potential as a pop artist and without any second thoughts, signed her as such. This was the beginning of Jessica Simpson's Professional Career.
